Dy Sepaker calls for action against using Endosulfan
Thiruvananthapuram, Aug 24: Kerala Assembly Deputy Sepeaker Jose Baby today urged the government to take stringent action against use of the banned Endosulfan pesticide in the Attappadi area of Palakkad district.
In a statement here, he said a letter in this regard had been presented to Agriucluture Minister Mullakkara Ratnakaran stating that the banned pesticide was being widely used in the Attappadi areas.
Alleging that the pesticide was being used in the area in some other names, he said the government should take immediate steps to find out those behind the distribution of the pesticide. Stringent action, including registration of cases for attempt to murder, should be taken against them in view its toxic effect experienced in the state.
Since using the pesticide was harmful to human beings, government should conduct a high level inquiry about the source of the pesticide's availablity, he added.
