Critical flood control scheme in Brahmaputra

New Delhi, Aug 24 (UNI) The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) today approved a scheme amounting to Rs 225 crore for taking up critical flood control and anti-erosion projects in Brahmaputra and Barak Valley by the concerned State governments.

Briefing newspersons on the outcome of the Cabinet meeting and CCEA decisions, Minister for Parliamenatary Affairs and Information and Broadcasting Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi said the monies allocated are for the Tenth Plan period.

He said the scheme would protect the life and properties of the people and installation from natural calamities, like flood and erosion caused by rivers Brahmaputra and the Barak in the North Eastern States, including Sikkim and West Bengal.
