CPI condemns ''unruly'' behaviour of some members in Lok Sabha

New Delhi, Aug 24 (UNI) The CPI today demanded a thorough inquiry into the 'unruly' incidents witnessed in the Lok Sabha and punishment for the guilty.

The party also emphasised the need for a code of conduct for the members, saying that what had happened in the House had never been witnessed in this democracy.

''The incidents were condemnable and deplorable,'' CPI leader Gurudas Dasgupta told mediapersons in a briefing in the precincts of Parliament.

He appealed to the members to restrain and not do anything which ''lowered the dignity of this august House and parliamentary system.'' Mr Dasgupta said that he had been member of the House for the past 20 years but had never come across such ugly incidents. ''We have democracy and one should show tolerance,'' he said.

There was need to ensure that such incidents were not repeated, he added.
