New Delhi, Aug 24 (UNI) The Government today said it was providing additional assistance to state governments in providing necessary infrastructure to prevent water logging in metro cities due to rains.

Minister of State for Urban Development Ajay Maken said in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha that additional central assistance was being provided under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) and Urban Infrastructure Development Scheme for Small and Medium Towns (UIDSSMT).

Replying to a question on the steps taken by his Ministry to stop water logging in metros from just one or two spells of rains, the Minister pointed out that since storm water drainage was a state subject, it was for the state governments to take necessary steps to stop water logging in metropolises under their jurisdiction.

Replying to a question regarding cities in Bihar, Mr Maken said "Patna and Bodh Gaya have been selected under JNNURM whereas other cities/towns are eligible under UIDSSMT but no proposal has been received from Bihar Governmenty in this Ministry so far." UNI SD YA KP1435
