Central Railway comes heavily on ticketless travellers
Mumbai, Aug 24 (UNI) The Central Railway's massive checking drives against unauthorised travel during the months of April to July has realised an amount of 10.2 crores from defaulters.
A total of 3.35 lakh cases were detected during the period from April to July 2006 as against 3.32 lakh cases during the same period last year and realised an amount of Rs 10.2 crores as against Rs 9.31 crore collected during the corresponding period last year, a release issued here today informed.
Only on July 2006, the authorities have detected 72,000 irregular travel including unbooked luggage and realised Rs 1.82 crores from the erring passengers against 1.59 crores during the corresponding period last year, the release disclosed.
During the month of July, 682 cases of transfer of reserved tickets were also detected and an amount of Rs 3.08 lakh realised, besides confiscating tickets worth Rs 1.22 lakh, the release added.
