Bommai urges PM to set up IIT in Hubli-Dharwad
Bangalore, Aug 24 (UNI) Former Union Human Resources Development Minister and senior Janata Dal (United) leader S R Bommai today urged Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to establish the proposed Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) in Hubli-Dharwad.
Welcoming the Centre's move to establish more IITs and IIMs in the country, he said ''it is necessary to produce more High Knowledge personnel to meet the challenges and position ourselves in the forefront in the field of knowledge, economy and human resources development.'' In a letter to the Prime Minister, a copy of which was released to the press here, he said Hubli-Dharwad, which had acquired itself the name Education Centre, possessed all required infrastructure for the purpose.
It was better to locate the educational institution in a tranquil place rather than look for a place in the ''highly congested'' Bangalore, he said, adding that 300 acres of land had already been earmarked for the project in the twin cities of Hubli-Dharwad.
