BHU medicos club anti-reservation, no student union mantra

Varanasi, Aug 24 (UNI) The fledgling doctors at the Banaras Hindu University (BHU) here this evening, clubbed the anti-reservation mantra with their cause against revival of students union in the central varsity.

The anti-reservationists of the Institute of Medical Sciences (IMS-BHU) carried out a massive protest march from the varsity main gate to the Ravidas Gate at Lanka and raised anti-Arjun Singh slogans.

''No Students Union,'' ''No Reservation'' read two separate banners being carried by the agitating doctors.

A call for restoration of BHU students union, locked since February 20, 1997 was given by Congress leaders including local MP Rajesh Mishra, during a recent programme on the varsity campus, where HRD minister Arjun Singh was the chief guest.

Meanwhile, both residents and fledgling doctors at the Sir Sunderlal Hospital, besides teachers at IMS-BHU wore black bands to work to symbolically protest the UPA government decision to introduce 27 per cent OBC reservation bill in the present session of Parliament.

Media Incharge of agitating doctors, Shashi Prakash said here this evening a meeting will be held tonight to chalk out the strategy for intensifying the movement.
