BCCI AGM on Sept 27-28; Tri-series, Champions Trophy teams on Sept 3

Mumbai, Aug 24 (UNI) Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will hold its annual general meeting and election of office-bearers here on September 27 and 28.

BCCI secretary Niranjan Shah said the venue for the AGM will be the Cricket Club of India (CCI).

The AGM will be the first one in which the Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar, who defeated beleaguered former BCCI chief Jagmohan Dalmiya's candidate Ranbir Singh Mahendra in the elections last year in Kolkata, will preside over.

It will also be the first instance that the office-bearers would be elected for a two-year term, as per amendments of the BCCI constitution, carried out through a Special General Meeting earlier this year.

The selection committee will also have a two-year term without the need to be re-appointed, as is the case at present.

Meanwhile, the Indian teams for the next month's triangular series in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and the subsequent ICC Champions Trophy in October-November would be chosen in Mumbai on September 3.

Shah said the squad for the September 12-24 Tri-series in Malaysia may comprise 15 players. Besides India, other teams include Australia and West Indies, ''We may select 15 players for the triangular series,'' he said, but added that the team for the October 7 to November 5 Champions Trophy, to be played at home, will have only 14 players as per regulations laid down by the International Cricket Council (ICC).'' He has spoken to the cricket authorities in Chennai and Bangalore and a decision on where to have the preparatory schedule for the team would be taken based on that, Shah added.
