6 flood-affected farmers attempt suicide
Akola, Maharashtra, Aug 24 (UNI) Six flood-affected farmers attempted to commit suicide by consuming insecticides in front of the gram panchayat office in Balapur taluka district today to protest against the non-receipt of government aid for rebuilding their damaged homes.
Police have identified the farmers as Gajanan Nandane (36), Ramdas Borse (35), Himmat Damodar (47), Damodar Lingot (65), Tukaram Damodar (80) and Laxman Gawande (65). The six have been admitted to the general hospital here.
The six farmers, while stating their houses had been damaged due to the recent floods, had claimed financial aid from the government, police said.
