12 ruling SP workers injured in lathicharge
Allahabad, Aug 24 (UNI) About 12 ruling Samajwadi Party workers, protesting in front of a shopping complex owned by former prime minister Vishwanath Pratap Singh's son in Civil Lines area here today, were injured when police resorted to lathicharge.
The workers alleged the former PM on one hand was opposing the acquisition of farmers' land in Dadri, while on the other his son was constructing multi-storey complex in the posh area by displacing poor and small shopkeepers.
About 300 SP and Samajwadi Yuvjan Sabha workers in a procession reached the spot shouting slogans against the former PM and tried to enter the complex.
Jawans of police and PAC, who were already present on the spot, chased them and resorted to lathicharge.
The SP activists were carrying banners and placards written with anti-V P Singh slogans.
They also pelted stones at the Mc Donand's restaurant situated in the complex, making the people run for cover.
The SP workers later damaged windowpanes of a roadways bus and a car of a government official near the bus station and resorted to 'chakka jam' in front of Hanumat Niketan Temple.
Meanwhile, heavy deployment of police had been made.
