Set up Special Court to dispose land encroachment cases:Ramaswamy

Bangalore, Aug 23 (UNI) Karnataka Government Land Encroachment Inquiry Committee Chairman A T Ramswamy today urged the State Government to set up a special court for speedy disposal of land encroachment cases.

Talking to newsmen here, he said that 1.18 lakh acres of government land worth Rs 42,000 crore, almost equal to One year's State Budget, was found to be encroached in the Bangalore Urban and Rural Districts.

About 200 people have been appointed to survey the encroachment of the govenment land in these areas, he added.

He said that of the total 944 Apartments in the Bangalore City limits 275 apartments were found to be constructed illegally in cooperation with Officials.

The Committee had recommended to the government to take severe legal action against those officials invloved the corrupt practices.

Several lakes and tank beds had been enchroached by violating the 1995 High Court order for maintaining the lakes and tanks.

Atleast l6 lakes have been enchroched by BMIC project, he added.
