NICD team investigates unknown disease in Manipur

Imphal, Aug 23 (UNI) An expert team from National Institute of Communicable Diseases, Delhi, came to Manipur's Bishnupur district for investigating an ''unknown disease'' at Bishenpur municipal area.

Several people had died and others are suffering from the disease, reports said.

Officials said the five-member expert team from NICD was led by Dr Avdesh Kumar, Joint Director, NICD, Delhi.

The joint team made the survey at Bishenpur municipal area for three days and also the adjoining areas and villages.

The team had also studied the case history of the patients admitted at Imphal Hospital and also of those patients who expired at Regional Institute of Medical Sciences, (RIMS), Lamphel.

Altogether 16 patients of similar cases were examined and 12 blood samples collected from the Bishenpur Municipal area for laboratory test and confirmation of the cases.

Rat traps were put in different areas in the Municipal Area and Samples (fleas and mites) from the rats were collected for laboratory examination.

The final report of the survey and investigation is awaited, officials said.
