Mumbai, Aug 23 (UNI) Police today recovered a huge cache of explosives from a river in Wada taluka of the neighbouring Thane district.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the seized explosives were part of a large consignment of scrap metals imported from the war-torn West Asia, police sources told UNI.

The explosives and scrap metals may have been thrown into the river as a result of increased security and yesterday's encounter at Antop Hill, sources informed.

Senior officials have rushed to the spot. A series of investigation and combing operations have begun in the area for further seizures, sources added.

The seizure came a day after the encounter between the Anti Terrorist Squad (ATS) sleuths of the Mumbai police and two terrorists, both Pakistani nationals, at Antop Hill in Central Mumbai. One of the terrorists was killed, while the other nabbed.
