AR holds medical camps in remote areas of Manipur
Imphal, Aug 23 (UNI) The Asom Rifles (AR) stationed at Ukhrul district have organised different medical camps in interior areas of the district.
Earlier, student groups had gone in to help the people. Most villages in the border areas are inaccessible due to absence of road and connectivity.
The 19 AR organised a medical camp at village Tuisemzang recently, where the unit's doctor along with three nursing assistants carried out medical check up of around 160 people and distributed free medicines to them.
The AR also donated two sewing machines in Zangnomphai and Moljam villages to help the destitutes earn a living, PRO of AR said.
The first camp was conducted yesterday in Chingai in which around 500 villagers of Chingai, Kongai, Awangkasom, Poi and Challao were also given free medicines.
The unit in Chingai treated the children suffering from chronic cough, vomiting and diarrhoea.
Chingai had been devoid of medical assistance due to non functioning of the PHCs despite it being a sub-divisional headquarters.
The large turnout of villagers brings to light the poor public health infrastructure in the area which needs to be urgently addressed by the State and District Headquarters, AR sources said.
