Sania hangs on to 44th in WTA singles rankings

New Delhi, Aug 22 (UNI) Sania Mirza failed to make any headway in her singles rankings after two successive first round exits in two weeks and remained static at 44th in the latest WTA rankings released in the run-up to the US Open beginning next Monday.

The Hyderabadi teenager, who lost her opening match of Rogers Cup in Montreal last week, has now 467 points to her credit in the list headed by Amelie Mauresmo of France, according to information received here today.

Sania also failed to get past the first round in the Los Angeles Open before the Montreal event.

Sania, however, move up one place to 28th in doubles individual rankings with 971 points.

It has been a dismal week for other Indian women also and all of them moved down the ladder with Shikha Oberoi slipping to 193rd from previous 188th and Ankita Bhambri (363rd) losing four places, while Rushmi Chakravarthi moved down nine places to finish at 454th and Sanaa Bhambri crashed to 619th from previous 593rd.

Among men, Rohan Bopanna had a disappointing week slipping three places to be placed at 297th, while Harsh Mankad jumped four places to finish at 301st in ATP rankings.

Karan Rastogi remained static at 343rd and Prakash Amritraj gained three places to claim 351st spot.

Meanwhile, Leander Paes (12th) and Mahesh Bhupathi (26th) clung onto their previous positions in the latest doubles rankings.
