Players advance in Junior Nationals Tennis

Chennai, Aug 21 (UNI) In the Adidas MCC National Junior Tennis Championship 2006 held here today for boys singles Under-14, Samip Mehta of Gujarat beat R Taranof CG by 6-2-6-3 to reach the second round.

Others reaching the second round were, Niranjan Ram of Tamil Nadu, who accounted for Acharya Bhardwaj, Andhra Pradesh, 7-5, 4-0(Con), Yuvraj Kumar of Delhi beat Armaan Choudry of Rajasthan 6-2-6-2 and Sharan Patil of Karnataka beat Rithwik Sunkara of Delhi, 4-6, 7-6(6) 6-1. In the Girls Under-14, P A Sindhu Nila of Tamil Nadu beat Suya Tejwani, 6-4-6-3 to reach the second round.

Others to qualify for the second round were, Neena Reddy of Tamil Nadu beat Anudathi Basu of West Bengal, 6-3-6-2, Natasha Palha of Goa beat Namita Bal of Maharashtra, 6-3, 5-7, 7-5 and Prathna Thombre of Maharashtra beat Ananya Sirkal, New Delhi, 6-0, 6-4.
