Centre to reconstruct damaged Indo-Bangla border fencing
Aizawl, Aug 22 (UNI) The Centre has decided to immediately replace the damaged fencing along the Indo-Bangla border here as per new modified design.
In a recent survey by the Central official agencies, about 854 km of fencing constructed under phase-I was found to be damaged at most of the stretches along the border, official sources here today said.
Due to this reason, the fencing construction during phase-I ceased to be effective in controlling illegal cross border activites.
Besides, the fencing was constructed as per old design during phase I.
Currently, fencing in phase-II is being contructed along these borders as per new modified design of barbed wire fencing, which is far more effective in controlling the illegal infiltration and cross border terrorist activities.
Phase-II of the Indo-Bangla border fencing involved construction of 2429 km of sealing, the official sources said, adding that in order to expedite the construction of fencing, several construction agencies including National Building Construction Corporation and Border Roads Organisation have been engaged.
