Zaheer stars in Worcestershire win
London, Aug 21 (UNI) Team India discard Zaheer Khan came up with a superb all-round performance taking four wickets for 29 and contributing 42 with the bat in Worcestershire's five-run win over Kent in Pro40 Division Two at New Road.
Zaheer hit four fours and two sixes in his highest one-day score off 38 balls and later took four crucial wickets to cut short a spirited reply from Kent.
Lou Vincent (61) and Vikram Solanki (34) were the other main contributors for Worcestershire.
Kent began their reply on a wrong note with Zaheer removing opener N J Dexter for 12 but the visitors recovered through Darren Stevens (66) and Martin van Jaarsveld (73) adding 97 in 16 overs.
It was Zaheer again who broke the pair after he dismissed Jaarsveld caught at backward square-leg.
Kent then lost five wickets in six overs and Worcestershire celebrated their second win in the competition.
James Tredwell was the most successful bowler for Kent with three scalps.
