Six nabbed with Rs 10 lakh fake currency

Amritsar, Aug 21 (UNI) Police have busted a gang manufacturing fake currency notes here and arrested six persons after recovering a computer, scanner and printer along with Rs 10 lakh in fake currency.

Mr Gautam Cheema, SSP Majitha police district told newspersons here today that on a tip-off, its special wing caught four motor bike-borne members of the gang at a 'naka' (check point) near Rasoolpur canal under Jandiala Guru police station last night, while they were on their way to sell the fake currency notes.

The four, Mohinder Singh, of Valtoha, Kulwant Singh of Jandiala Guru, Basant Singh of Patti and his computer engineer brother-in-law Mandeep Singh, were arrested and Rs 67,000 worth of fake currency notes were recovered from them.

After their interrogation, police also nabbed Kashmir Singh ex-sarpanch, who ironically carried an identity card issued by Punjab's special anti-crime bureau and seized Rs one lakh worth in fake currency from him. one of their accomplices Baldev Singh of Mattewal, was also nabbed with fake currency worth Rs 40,000.

Later, the police found fake currency worth Rs 8,33,000 and computer, scanner and printer from the house of one of the accused, the SSP said. The money was circulated in the country only and apparently, there was no foreign hand involved, he added.

According to Mr Singh, Kulwant Singh, who was in jail earlier, had learnt the trade there. They began with marketing the fake notes for others and later graduated to making the fake currency themselves.
