Situation fast returning to normalcy in flood affected villages

Gulbarga, Aug 21 (UNI) The flood situation in North Karnataka villages due to swollen Bhima and Krishna rivers following heavy discharge from Maharashtra, was fast returning to normalcy with marked reduction in the inflow.

The situation has improved as water is receiding in the villages which were marooned or partially covered by flood water of river Bhima.

Revenue officials said that barring 224 families all the other affected have left Relief Camps. However, distribution of relief materials were continued.

The water discharge from Ujjini and Veerbhatkal Reservoirs in Maharashtra have reduced and 1.25 lakh cusecs water was flowing in to the Bhima river at Devulgaon bridge guaging point, officials added.

In Belgaum district the inflow into Krishna river from Maharashtra has reduced to 30,056 cusecs bringing relief to the people in the affected areas.

In Alamatti dam, the inflow was recorded at 3,07,794 cusecs while outflow was maintained at 2,36,423. The water level stood at 518.64 Metres against the maxium level of 519.6 Meters.
