Sensex trades 17.79 pts down at 11,447.93

Mumbai, Aug 21 (UNI) The BSE Sensex was 17.79 points down at 11,447.93 in the intra-noon trade today, as the FMCG and PSU sectors bore the selling pressure.

The Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) Sensitive Index (Sensex) since morning has been very volatile and has even entered the positive territory on some ocassions. However, it has traded in the negative for the larger part of the trading time.

The fast moving consumer goods (FMCG) sector was down 1.02 per cent and the PSU sector by 0.24 per cent. The activity in other sectors was more or less the same, except the banking, consumer durables and the IT sectors. The banking sector was up by 0.28 per cent, consumer durables by 0.21 per cent and the IT sector was up by 0.75 per cent.

Activities are mostly affected by the weak global indices and also as the metals trade weak on the London Metals Exchange.

Major Gainers on the BSE index are - Infosys, Cipla, ACC, SBI, ICICI, Bajaj Auto, Relinace Communciations, Satyam Computers, Gujarat Ambuja and Reliance Industries, all up between 0.33 per cent and 1.44 per cent.

The losers are - Reliance Energy, ONGC, Ranbaxy, Hero Honda, HDFC, HLL, ITC, Tata Steel and NTPC, all down beween 0.60 per cent and 2.48 per cent.
