SC dismisses PIL against Lalu, Rabri
New Delhi, Aug 21 (UNI) In a major relief to Union Railway Minister Lalu Prasad and his wife Rabri Devi, the Supreme Court today dismissed a PIL seeking directions to the authorities to file an appeal against the Income Tax Appellate Tribunal, Patna, which dismissed a plea filed against them for amassing assets beyond their known sources of income.
The petitioner, Rajiv Ranjan Singh, alias Lallan, an MP, had also sought the cancellation of bail granted to Mr Prasad and his wife.
the petitioner also prayed for changing the present Special Judge CBI, Patna, Munnilal Paswan, as his appointment was illegal because his Annual Confidential Report( ACR) showed that he lacked competence.
The petitioner also appealed for re-appointment of the earlier public prosecutor in the case.
A bench comprising Justice K G Balakrishnan, Justice A R Lakshmanan and Mr Justice S H Kapadia dismissed the petitions by a majority of two to one with Justice Kapadia dissenting.
