Lucknow, Aug 21 (UNI) In a major reprive to Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL), the Central Electricity Regulatory Authority (CERA) has decided to withdraw the order of payment of Rs one lakh fine on UPPCL for having withdrawn excess power from the Northern Grid in April.

According to a UPPCL news release, CERA decided to revoke the July 31 order of the one-man A H Jung probe committee directing UPPCL to pay the fine amount by August 28.

CERA withdrew the order after UPPCL moved the Electricity Appellate Tribunal (EAT) for contempt against CERA for violating EAT ruling that there would be no final decision on any fine till the case was pending.

Earlier, UPPCL had moved the tribunal against the CERA order to impose a fine of Rs one lakh for withdrawing excess electricity.

UPPCL officials claim the order was withdrawn as it amounted to contempt of EAT by CERA and the one-man committee probing the matter.

UPPCL and CERA are fighting tooth-and-nail over the controversy with UP stating it had not violated norms by withdrawing excess power from the grid, while the centre maintained that due to UPPCL's act, the grid was in immense danger and on the verge of a collapse.
