Notification on digital meters for three-wheelers soon: Minister

Hyderabad, Aug 21 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Transport Minister Kanna Lakshmi Narayana today assured the State Assembly that a notification for fixing digital meters for three-wheelers to safeguard commuters' interests would be issued in a month.

Replying to a question by Congress Member Malreddy Ranga Reddy during the Question Hour, the Minister said a preliminary notification was issued on June 2, 2006 and a month's time given for objections. These were later sorted out.

On the doubts raised by Mr Reddy on the working of digital meters, the Minister said the government had formed an 'Officers' Committee' to study the working of these meters in Kerala, Mumbai, Delhi, Pune and Chennai.

The team had submitted a report stating the meters were tamper-proof. The government would give an year for autorickshaw owners to shift to digital meters.

Earlier, the Congress member alleged the auto drivers were tampering the mechanical meters and robbing the commuters.
