Nanavati panel admits plea to summon then DGP
Ahmedabad, Aug 21: The Nanavati-Shah Commission, which is probing the Godhra carnage incident and its aftermath, today admitted a plea to issue summons to seven senior police officers including then Director General of Police K Chakraborty and then Police Commissioner P C Pandey, for cross examination.
The application made by Jan Sangharsh Manch advocate Mukul Sinha said though some of the officers had been deposed earlier, they were cross-examined after the Gujarat government expanded the terms of reference of the Commission regarding inquiry into the conduct of Chief Minister and Ministers, officials etc.
The other police officials named in the plea are S K Tandon, then Additional Commissioner of Police, Sector-2, P B Gondiya, then DCP Zone IV, Ahmedabad city, R J Sawani, then DCP Zone V, Ahmedabad, Mr A K Surolia, then Additional Commissioner, in charge Crime Branch, supervising the Naroda Patiya case and Mr P P Pandey, the then Additional Commissioner incharge Crime branch, who took charge from Mr Surolia.
The Commission also admitted another plea of the VHP for presenting officer, Railway Claims tribunal, among others to present before the Commission copies of judgements delivered by the Tribunal in Godhra carnage cases.
