Mysore racing season to start from Aug 24

Mysore, Aug 21 (UNI) A prize money of Rs 3.50 crore will be in stake at the 18-day Mysore racing season, commencing on August 24.

Addressing mediapersons here, Mysore Race Club Chairman Dr N M Sreenivas said over 700 horses were expected to take part in the races. Almost all trainers from Bangalore would bring their wards, besides outstation trainers like R Foley from Chennai and Vijay Singh from Kolkata. The richest race of the season was Mysore Poonawala Derby, scheduled for October 22, the concluding day of the season.

He said the race club was on the look out for a land to build a new stable as the land on which the present one was located had been allotted to the Administrative Training Institute by the State Government. The club had sought some time to move out, he added, exuding confidence that the Government would provide land for the purpose.

Mr Sreenivas said the Mysore Race Club, which had an Eye Hospital, was thinking of opening a public school and a community hall to serve the people. As soon as the land was identified, the project would be taken up, he added.

The following are the important racing dates: Mysore Million Grade III - August 25, H H Srikrishnaraja Wadiyar Memorial Gold Cup- September 8, Karnataka Race Horse Owners' Association Mysore 1000 Guineas 2006 - September 15, Sri Chamaraja Wadiyar Memorial Gold Cup - September 21, Maharaja's Gold Cup - September 22, The Mysore 2000 Guineas 2006 - September 28, Governor's Gold Cup - October 6, Chief Minister's Gold Cup -October 12, F K Irani Gold Cup - October 13, Poonawalla Mysore Derby 2006 and Daisy Appoo Cup - October 22.
