Man beaten to death by residents

Hyderabad, Aug 21 (UNI) An alleged robber was beaten to death by residents of Alwal area here today.

Police said when a group of six robbers came to rob the house of one Venkatesh in Surynagar the inmates raised an alarm and the local residents chased the robbers and managed to nab two of them.

Later, they tied the robbers to a tree and beat them up.

In the melee, Kumaraiah died and the other, who was yet to be identified was seriously injured.

The injured was admitted to Gandhi Hospital.

However, the family members of the deceased claimed that he was working as a watchman in an engineer's house in the locality and refuted the allegation levelled on Kumaraiah as a robber by both the police and residents.

Following this incident, the local residents claimed that they reacted as per the appeal made by the Cyberabad police in nabbing the robbers.

The Cyberabad police also honoured more than 30 citizen turned policemen on August 15.
