Lapang appeals AICC to solve political crisis in Meghalaya
Shillong, Aug 21 (UNI) Former Meghalaya chief minister D D Lapang today appealed to the Congress High Command to resolve the political crisis in the state to ensure unity in the party.
''High command's intervention is necessary to ensure unity of the party in the state,'' Mr Lapang told UNI.
Earlier, 15 dissident Congress legislators had proposed Mr Lapang's reinstatement, describing Chief Minister J D Rymbai as 'inefficient'.
Mr Lapang, who was forced to step down in mid-June, hoped that the party high command would sort out the problem soon.
''We don't want our party to create confusion in the minds of the people, but we want that our party should serve the people,'' the former Chief Minister said.
Meanwhile, AICC president Mrs Sonia Gandhi has directed Mr Rymbai to cancel the Congress Legislature Party(CLP) meet, scheduled for this evening, sources said.
The AICC state secretary in-charge Maj Gen (Retd) Ved Prakash said the high command is expected to summon Mr Rymbai and Mr Lapang to New Delhi to sort out the political issue.
