K'taka aims to produce addln 5000 MW over next 5 years
Mysore, Aug 21 (UNI) The Karnataka government has set a target of additional generation of 5,000 MW of power during the next five years to prevent energy crisis, Public Works Department and Energy Minister H D Revanna informed today.
Addressing newspersons here, he said the government had plans to spend Rs 6,000-7,000 crore for the purpose. Many such projects would be taken up to further improve power generation in the state. Mr Revanna claimed that after he took charge of the ministry, transmission loss had reduced to 4.80 per cent from the 6.75 per cent.
To a question, he said a decision on hike in power tariff would be taken by the Tariff Regulatory Authority and the five electricity supply companies in the state which would recommend the hike to the authorit. However when improved services were provided to consumers such a hike would become inevitable, he added.
