JD(U) urges Lalu not to politicise Bihar's drought like situation

Patna, Aug 21 (UNI) JD(U) today urged Railway Minister and RJD president Lalu Prasad to refrain from politiking the natural calamity and persue Union government to declare Bihar as drought hit.

State JD(U) principal general secratary Upendra Prasad Kushwaha alleged that Mr Prasad was not doing anything in the interest of farmers and was only trading charges against the government for political gains. '' When Mr Prasad Yadav was at the helm of the affairs in Bihar, he had demanded special package from the Centre but as Union Minister, he was not taking up the issue, ''he said.

He said the state government had not only announced subsidy on diesel to help the farmers but the requisite fund had also been allocated.

A committee comprising ministers and officials has been constituted to assess the damage owing to drought like situation in the state and the government would initiate action when the committee submits report, he added.
