HC directs police to book the attackers at Nizamuddin dargha

New Delhi, Aug 21 (UNI) The Delhi High Court today directed the Delhi Police Commissioner to book the culprits who had attacked the Court receiver and the Waqf Board Counsel who had gone to the Hazrat Nizamuddin Dargah to execute a court direction.

A Division Bench of Justice M K Sharma Justice Hima Kohli said the people at the dargha could not take law in their own hands and manhandle the court appointed commissioner.

The Court directed the Police Commissioner to provide security to both Mr Azim-ul-Haq, the Survey Commissioner of the Wakf Board as a "receiver" and Waqf Board Counsel Nijim Waziri as there was an attempt on their lives by the unrully mob at the dargha.

The Court asked the SHO Nizamuddin to probe the matter and submit a status report before the court in 10 days.

Senior Counsel A S Chandihoke and Counsel A U Taufel appearing for the pirzadas (the persons managing the dargha) tendered unconditional apology and assured the court that they would abide by the court order by handing over the financial management to the receiver.

In compliance with the August 17 order, both had gone to take possession of the activities of the dargha.

The court had appointed the Survey Commissioner of the Wakf Board as a "receiver" for managing the activities of the dargah following complaints that crores of rupees of public donations were being usurped by some of the people who claimed to be the descendants of the saint.

When Azim-ul-Haq and Waziri went to the holy place on Sunday, an unrully mob allegedly instigated by some vested interests tried to attack the duo forcing the latter to beat a hasty retreat from the place.
