Govt names FSL as appropriate agency for Godhra calls-CD analysis
Ahmedabad, Aug 21 (UNI) The Gujarat Government today submitted before the Godhra inquiry panel that the Forensic Science Laboratory's (FSL) cyber crime wing, Gandhinagar, would be the appropriate agency to probe the two CDs submitted by senior police official Rahul Sharma.
The CDs contain records of mobile phone calls made and received by top politicians and Government officials in March 2002, when the riots broke out in the state.
Government counsel T S Nanavati, however, sought a week's time to name the FSL officers who would be able to take up the task. The two-men panel, which is probing Sabarmati Express carnage incident of February 27, 2002 and its aftermath, granted the Government the time. Mr Sharma, now with the CBI, Gandhinagar, had submitted the CDs to the Commission two years back.
Earlier, on August 1, the Commission had asked the State Government to suggest names of appropriate agencies which would probe the CDs.
The order was given after Jan Sangharsh Manch lawyer Mukul Sinha filed an amended application asking the Commission to ''ascertain the locations and contacts'' of 42 people, including politicians and police officials, during the riots.
The application contains names of state Chief Minister Narendra Modi, Mr Gordhan Zadaphia, Cabinet Ministers I K Jadeja and Ashok Bhatt and some of the accused in Naroda Patiya and Gulberg Society massacres.
