Fall of nine per cent malaria cases in MP

Bhopal, Aug 21 (UNI) Encouraged by a fall of nine per cent in malaria cases in Madhya Pradesh this year, the state government has released Rs 4.01 crore as a part of its efforts to curb the menace.

The amount would be released to carry out various anti-malaria activities under the Enhanced Malaria Control Programme -- being run at 95 primary health centres in 20 district under the World Bank Project The Centre has accorded sanction of Rs 8.50 crore to carry anti-malaria activities in the state during 2006-07. So far, Rs 5.42 crore has been received.

The activities being taken up under the programme includes spraying link pesticides, disseminating information and guiding common people against malaria besides training officers and employees and setting up laboratory at sectoral-level primary health centre.

Meanwhile, the National Vector-Borne Disease Control Programme was being carried out in all the 48 districts of the state through 40 malaria units and medicines were being provided to people.
