DMET shadow leads to rash of raids in MP
Bhopal, Aug 21 (UNI) Police today raided the Private Medical College People's Group premises here in connection with large-scale irregularities in the Dental and Medical Entrance Test (DMET) for Madhya Pradesh's privately-run eight dental and three medical colleges -- involving more than 1,000 seats.
''Three city CID teams raided different locations simultaneously,'' said SP Anant Kumar Singh.
In the wake of the irregularities, the Justice Chandra Bhushan Committee on August 19 decided to cancel this year's August 13 DMET test.
Controversy raged over alleged question paper leakage, use of pencils instead of pens in answer sheets and other irregularities.
The ABVP and a few other organisations alleged that Medical Education Minister Ajay Vishnoi and the Association of Private Medical and Dental Colleges were hand-in-glove with each other.
Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan directed speedy tabling of a detailed inquiry report.
Raids targeted the group's colleges at Karond, an office at Malviya Nagar and the residence of Joint Controller (DMET) Y C Upreet. Shady property records were found at the office and the Income-Tax Department has been alerted.
On August 16, a privately-run dental college employee Chaturbhuj Dubey was arrested following a woman's complaint that he took lakhs from candidates for admission in colleges. A sum of Rs 12 lakh and several lakhs worth postdated cheques were seized.
