Cong demonstrates against 'forcible acquisition' of farm land
Lucknow, Aug 21 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh Congress held a demonstration today to protest ''acquisition'' of farm land by the state government to help business houses create real estate.
Addressing the gathering at Patel statue in the heart of the capital city, Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader Pramod Tiwari alleged the government was gobbling up land of farmers at throwaway prices to help industrialists in the name of development.
He claimed Congress would fight for the rights of farmers outside and inside the state legislature. ''We will leave no stone unturned to defend the rights of farmers.'' A few days ago, Congress MLA and wife of UP Congress president Ms Louis Khurshid had sat on a dharna after being refused to go to Dadri, where former Prime Minister V P Singh's Jan Morcha had planned an agitation against acquisition of 2,800 acres of land from farmers for the proposed Reliance Energy's gas-based power project.
