Bandh brings life to a standstill

Itanagar, Aug 21 (UNI) A dawn to dusk bandh paralysed life here as people protested against 'unfair draw' of a lottery on August 15.

The bandh, called by All Arunachal Pradesh Donyi Polo Vidya Bhawan Raffle 2006 Ticket Holders Committee (AAPDPVBRTHC) alleged that basic norms were violated in the draw.

All business establishments put their shutters down and financial institutions, including banks and post offices and educational institutions remained closed.

All modes of transportation were off the road. Offices also recorded thin attendance in the state capital.

Though there were some stray incidents of stone pelting at a few places, there was no report of any damage or arrest.

The change of timing of a lottery draw snowballed into a major issue recently. The AAPDPVBRTHC called the bandh and demanded another draw of the lottery.

Meanwhile, Opposition leader Kameng Dolo has demanded resignation of Chief Minister Gegong Apang alleging failure to keep people's expectations.
