60 hospitalised in Cherthala with suspected chikungunya
Alappuzha, Aug 21 (UNI) About 60 people have been admitted in primary health centres and the taluk hospital in Cherthala here with suspected chikungunya fever.
According to District Deputy Medical Officer Jagan Mohan, as the patients showed the symptoms of Chikungunya, blood samples collected from them would be sent to the Virology Institute in Pune. All patients were from Pattanakkad, Kadakkarappally, Thanneermukkom and Cherthala municipality.
Dr Jagan Mohan said the virus of Chikungunya was being spread by Aedis Aegypti mosquitoes which also carried the dengue virus. The presence of Eadius mosquitoes in the affected panchayats and Cherthala municipality was very high, he added.
