100 students fall ill after taking mid-day meal in Bengal

Midnapore, Aug 21 (UNI) About 100 students of Chhatradari Primary School in East Midnapore district took ill after taking their mid-day meal today.

East Midnapore District Magistrate Anup Agarwal said 50 of the affected students were treated locally while the rest had been sent to Tamluk district hospital.

About 30 students were in critical condition, hospital authorities informed.

An inspection team had been sent to the school for investigation, the DM said.

The cause of illness is yet to be ascertained. However, food samples have been collected for examination, Mr Agarwal added.
