Youth, accused of rape and murder, dies in police custody

Pune, Aug 20 (UNI) An accused in a rape and murder case, succumbed to his injuries at the Government-run Sassoon Hospital here today.

According to the police, one Arjun Bolwad (21) who had allegedly raped and murdered Radhika Shelar (19) was hunted down by the villagers in a sugarcane field in Shirur Taluka and severely beaten and then handed over to the police.

However, the villagers have vehemently denied that they had beaten up the youth. According to them the youth had been handed over to the police four days back. They alleged that Arjun died due to police torture while in custody.
