Varghese optimistic of maximum tickets for youth Congress candidates
Panaji, Aug 20 (UNI) All India Youth Congress General Secretary Dipti Varghese, who is also - incharge of Goa, is optimistic that maximum number of tickets will be given to youth Congress candidates in the forthcoming election of the State Assembly.
Ms Varghese, who was here in Goa on the occasion of the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Rajiiv Gandhi, told mediapersons here today said that they have demanded maximum tickets for Youth Congress as common people are also looking for new faces this time besides experienced Congress leaders.
She opined if the tickets are given to candidates who had completed more than three terms, youth will lose their chance.
Ms Varghesee also said discussions at the national level are on to change the state youth presidents of 14 states including Goa very soon. She said some of the existing presidents are over age and some have already completed more than four to five years on the same post.
Andra Pradesh and Karnataka youth president will be replaced first, she added.
She also said on the occasion of the Sadbhavana Diwas youth Congress organising a nation wide proramme to make a record of tree plantation in each block by planting 1,000 sappling all over India.
Youth Congress felt this is the best way to remeber Mr Gandhi's birth anniversary, she added.
State Youth Congress President Girish Chodankar, who was also present said that in Goa four places have been identified to plant the trees in both North and South Goa districts at Vasco, Margao, Dhargal and Thivim. After planting about 300 sapplings in each the place will be named the Rajiv Gandhi Nature park and care will be taken to protect the trees, Mr Chodankar added.
