Toll in floods in Rajasthan reaches 28

Jaipur, Aug 20 (UNI) The toll in rain-related incidents in Rajasthan has reached 28 with 10 districts in the state facing unprecedented floods.

Two people were washed away in Sirohi while five people were struck by lightning in Barmer district.

As many as 14 columns of the army are helping the civil administration in relief and rescue operations.

Life was thrown out of gear in the 10 districts of Udaipur, Banswara, Dungarpur, Chittorgarh, Pali, Jalore, Sirohi, Kota, Jhalawar and Barmer due to unprecedented floods paralysing the power and telecommunication network.

Water supply was also disrupted due to power failure. There were reports that the road and rail traffic in the districts was also affected with roads inundated with flood waters and collapse of bridges.

The state administration has sanctioned Rs 20 lakh each to the affected districts to launch relief operations. Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje will visit the flood affected districts tomorrow.

There were reports that the district administration as a precautionary measure has closed the road leading to famous Haveli of Salam Singh in Jaisalmer fearing that it might cave in any time.

North Western Railway Ajmer Division has suspended six trains on the Udaipur- Ahmedabad section for the month due to landslide on this route.
