Sri Lanka series cancelled

Colombo, Aug 20 (UNI) The jinxed Unitech Cup, which was reduced to bi-series between India and Sri Lanka after South Africa pulled out, has met an abrupt end with the organisers calling off the three-match event due to bad weather here.

It was after the rain gods played spoilsport and allowed only 22 balls to be bowled in two matches.

''Two matches have already been ruined due to the rain and the forecast is of more showers, so we have requested for the series to be played at a later date,'' a Sri Lanka Cricket official said adding that the decision was made after consultations with the BCCI.
