Salgaocar routs Signals 4-0, Raia holds Vasco to 1-1 draw

Margao, Aug 20 (UNI) Formidable Salgaocar Sports Club kept up their winning spree by crushing Corps of Signals 4-0 and maintained the top position with six points in the GFA Hutch Professional Football League championship tie played at Duler Ground, Mapusa.

Salgaocar, who dominated the proceedings right from the kick off, moved ahead as early as in the first minute through Francis Andrade off a pass from Petric Okonji.

Salgaocar continued their attack and increased the lead in the 21st minute through Milagris Gonsalves off a pass from Francis Fernandes. 2-0.

Inspired by two goals in quick sucession, Salgaocar never looked behind and scored the third goal through Petrick Okanji in the 38th minute. The move was initiated by William Colaco who passed to Okanji. The latter, after collecting the ball, dodged past a couple of defenders and shot into the net taking the score at the breather to 3-0 .

After the change over, R C Prakash completed the tally in the 71st minute off a cross pass from Remos Gomes who scored the fourth goal for his side and sealed the fate of Signals.

Salgaocar's Francis Fernandes was adjudged the Man of the Match for his fine play.

In another match played at Fatorda Stadium, Raia Sporting held Vasco Sports Club to a 1-1 draw and split points.

In an evenly balanced tie, Vasco surged ahead in the 16th minute through Alvito Rodrigues whose header found the net off a pass from Rovan Pereira. 1-0.

The lead did not last long as Raia Sporting restored parity in the 29th minute of the first half through Agnelo Martin following a flag kick taken by Rokcy Barreto. 1-1.

There was not much of action in the second half and play was restricted to the midfield for a major part. Raia's Mevilton Fernandes was adjudged the Man of the Match.

After today's matches, Salgaocar lead the table with 6 points, winning both their outings so far. They are followed by Sporting Club and Vasco Sports Club with 4 points each, Velsao Pale 3, Churchill Brothers 2, and Dempo and Raia Sporting one point each.
