Protest against price hike continues in Kathmadu
Kathmandu, Aug 20 (UNI) Students and the general public continued protests here against the price hike of petroleum products for the second day today.
Almost all the shops in the major market remained closed and vehicles remained off the roads.
The protestors burnt tyres and vandalised two vehicles in the city, demanding reduction in the prices of petrol, kerosene, diesel and gas.
The government had increased the price of petroleum products by 11 to 39 per cent last week.
After the price hike, the prices of petrol has reached to Rs 84.25 per litre, diesel Rs 59.08 and kerosene Rs 59.21 per litre.
The price of the subsidised kerosene has been fixed at Rs 52.41 per litre. Similarly, the retail price of the cooking gas has been fixed at Rs 1,000 per cylinder.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala, who was in his home town Biratnagar for the last few days, told party workers the government would readjust the price hike after consulting the leaders of the seven party alliance.
