Physiotherapists plea to govt
Pondicherry, Aug 20 (UNI) Pondicherry Association of Physiotherapists today urged the territorial administration to create more posts of physiotherapists in government hospitals.
Association General Secretary B Kumaran said in a statement here today that in 1972, three physiotherapists were appointed at the government general hospital here and the number remained the same now despite ten-fold increase in patients.
At least 15 physiotherapists were required to cater to the patients.
He urged the administration to creat posts and appoint physiotherapists at government hospitals, Mahe and Yanam, Mahatma Gandhi Dental College and Hospital, Pondicherry University, Sports Authority of India and the TB Sanitorium and Maternity Hospital here.
Mr Kumaran claimed about 200 candidates had passed out from the government-run Mother Teresa Institute of Health Sciences since 1992 and almost all of them were still unemployed, Hence, the appointment of physiotherapists should be on the seniority basis. He also urged the administration to stop selection of candidates for BPT through CENTAC till the new posts were created.
Mr Kumaran said the association members would observe a dharna infront of the Pondicherry Legislative Assembly from 0900 hrs to 1300 hrs tomorrow to press their demands UNI PAB GM 1329
