Over 100 kg narcotics haul in Delhi

New Delhi, Aug 20 (UNI) In a major success, Delhi police today said it has smashed an international drug racket with the arrest of four persons and seized 100 kg of ephedrine worth nearly five million US dollars and three kg of hashish from them.

The narcotic was seized from a vehicle near Dhaula Kuan. The consignment, meant for an Ontario-based individual, was hidden in false cavities in paintings to be sent via the Indira Gandhi International airport to an Ontario-based source, Deputy Commissioner of Police (South West Delhi) Ravindra Yadav informed reporters.

The kingpin Gurdish Singh Toor, a Canada-based Non-Resident Indian, his ''right hand man'' Paramjeet Singh of Ludhiana, businessman Amit Agarwal, besides Kailash Chand Jindal, a newspaper agent of Indore, were arrested by police teams who worked on information received some three months ago, he said.

Police was on the lookout for a few other accomplices of the accused in Mumbai and other cities, he added.

During preliminary questioning, the accused, currently in police remand, revealed that they had been smuggling narcotics to the United States and Canada over the last two years, DCP Yadav said.

While describing the seized drugs as a ''small consignment'' as compared to what had already been sent across over the last few years, he pointed out that ephedrine is used for making popular party drugs in many Western countries.
