NJP appeals to TN CM to include Mudalayars in MBC list

Chennai, Aug 20 (UNI) The New Justice Party (NJP) today appealed to Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi to include Mudaliyar, Velalar, Sengunthar, Pillaimar and Senaithalaivar communities in the Most Backward list.

Party's spokesman Mr R Ravi told newsmen after the General Council meeting here under the leadership of party's founder-President and former MP A C Shanmugam, that a resolution to this effect was adopted at the meeting.

He said the meeting strongly condemned the ongoing attacks against the innocent Tamils in Sri Lanka by the Sri Lankan Army and urged the Sri Lankan Government to stop them and find an amicable solution for the ethnic issue based on the guidelines of the Norway peace mission and United Nations.

The Meeting requested the Centre not to extend any direct or indirect assistance to Sri Lankan Government as it would use it against the interest of Tamils.

The meeting, while congratulating DMK President M Karunanidhi for assuming office of the Chief Minister for the fifth time, thanked him for announcing several concessions to both handloom and power loom weavers, writing off farm loans worth Rs 7000 crore and other welfare measures in the current year's budget.

The meeting also thanked Pondicherry Chief Minister N Rangasamy for his assurance that his government would take action for including Mudaliyars, Velalars, Sengunthar and Pillaimars under the Most Backward Class list.
