NE MPs oppose diversion of funds from NLCPR

New Delhi, Aug 20 (UNI) Thirty-nine MPs representing eight north-eastern states have opposed the diversion of funds from Non-Lapsable Central Pool Resources (NLCPR) to North Eastern Council (NEC), Bodo Territorial Council (BTC) and Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan through Department for the Development of North Eastern Region (DONER).

They pointed out that these three organisations should have been given fund allocation from their respective ministries like NEC and BTC from the Home Ministry and Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan from the HRD Ministry.

They added that the diversion of funds from NLCPR is causing inordinate delay in the implementation of various projects for the development of the region.

Citing the gas-based Baramura Power Project in Tripura, the MPs from both houses of Parliament, said even the centrally sponsored projects which were entitled for 90 per cent central grant and 10 per cent state contributions were not adhered too.

The MPs have decided to personally meet Prime Minister Manmohan Singh before the conclusion of the current session of Parliament and submit him a memorandum in this regard.

Resai Kaisaing, working chairman of the Forum, they represent, said they will also make a plea for the early completion of all projects in the region that were promised and granted by various Prime Ministers at different points of time.
