Narayana murthy steps down as Chairman
Murthy's integrity and vision has made him an icon not just in India but internationally as well. The Economist ranked him eighth on the list of the 15 most admired global leaders in 2005.
Financial Times ranked him 28th among the world's most-respected business leaders last year. And Time magazine named him as one of the 10 leaders shaping the future of technology.
"I think he is an extraordinary leader. I think when the history of India will be written he will be ranked up there in the top leaders of this country. And this is because he is able to lead the country. He is a fair person but also very tough. In fact he is the toughest on me," MD and CEO, Infosys, Nandan Nilekani said.
A stickler for quality and high corporate governance Murthy ensured Infosys never promised what it couldn't deliver. While some saw this as conservatism, Murthy's philosophy was simple - when in doubt, disclose.
"I think it is part of the value system. It is about being trustworthy, about delivering what one has promised and so it is about being predictable. Once all of us have agreed on that we obviously have to say things or commit to things that we live up to," Murthy said.
