Muslims target of votebank politics: Bukhari

Allahabad, Aug 20 (UNI) All the political parties have used the Muslims in the country, during the last 60 years, as votebank and done nothing concrete for their welfare, Shahi Imam of Delhi's Jama Masjid Syed Ahmad Bukhari claimed today.

Talking to newspersons after addressing a United Democratic Front -- an outfit which was recently launched in New Delhi under the Imam's patronage -- rally here, Mr Bukhari alleged that both the Congress and Samajwadi Party have ''deceived'' the Muslims. ''In return of their support and trust, the community got neglect and harassment in return from the two parties,'' the Imam alleged.

He also alleged that the Samajwadi Party was a ''friend'' of the RSS and BJP.

Earlier, while addressing the rally he said that Muslims were being implicated in false cases innocent youths targeted in Mumbai blasts case. ''While no action was initiated against Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi for the Godhra pogrom,'' he claimed.

He claimed the UDF will emerge as a potent force in the state and said that by way of the outfit Muslims will ''claim their share in power''.

He also took a dig at the US accusing the country of being responsible for all the allegations it has levelled against the Muslims and Islam.

However, the Imam hailed Bahujan Samaj Party supremo Mayawati for her ''contribution'' to the cause of opressed sections of society.

On a query regarding forging of alliances, Mr Bukhari said the UDF will not enter into an understanding with either the BJP or SP.

''However, our doors are open to all,'' he added.

Mr Bukhari is the Front convenor.
